Why we built Lawfindo

People usually look for a lawyer at a difficult moment: after an accident or an arrest, during a divorce, after a bereavement, or when a business deal goes wrong. Search results are crowded with adverts and lead-generation sites, and it can be hard to tell who is qualified, what they specialise in, or where to start. Lawfindo is a simple, independent directory with clear guides, built from public and official data.

• Pages for 90 cities and towns, every US state, and 19 practice areas, so you can find local specialists quickly.
• Firm profiles with locations, contact details, practice areas and, for UK firms, regulation status verified against the Solicitors Regulation Authority register.
• Plain-English guides to hiring and paying a lawyer, and to common legal problems in the US, the UK and Europe.

Our principles

• Independence. Firms cannot pay to be listed or to rank higher. Listings are ordered by objective factors such as distance and how complete the listing is.
• Transparency. Every profile says where its information comes from, and when it hasn't been verified, and links to the official register so you can check a lawyer's licence.
• Clarity. We explain legal topics in plain English and point to official sources.
• Honesty about what we are. We are not a law firm and we don't give legal advice. We help you find people who can.

How we're funded

Lawfindo is free to use. We may show clearly labelled advertising to cover our running costs. Advertising never affects which firms we list or the order they appear in. Read our editorial policy.
