Privacy policy

Last updated: 30 October 2026

This policy explains how Lawfindo ("we", "us") collects and uses personal information when you use Lawfindo (lawfindo.com, the "website"). It covers your rights under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and US state privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Who we are

Lawfindo is the controller of personal information collected through this website. Contact us about privacy at hello@lawfindo.com or through our contact form.

Information we collect

Information you give us

If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address, the topic and your message, plus your IP address to help prevent abuse. We use this only to respond to you and keep a record of the correspondence.

Searches and location

When you search by city, ZIP code or postcode, we use what you type to find nearby firms. UK postcodes may be sent to postcodes.io, a free postcode lookup service. If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks for permission and then sends your approximate coordinates to us. We use them only to find the nearest city page and do not store them against you. We keep a cache of location search terms and their coordinates, which is not linked to you.

Technical information

Our servers record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and time of visit. We use it to keep the website secure and working, and keep it for a limited period.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

We may use Google Analytics and Google AdSense, which use cookies and similar technologies. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first. See our cookie policy.

Information about lawyers and law firms

Our directory contains business information about law firms: names, office addresses, business phone numbers, websites and practice areas. It comes from the Solicitors Regulation Authority's public register (UK) and from Overture Maps open places data (other countries). Some of it may relate to identifiable people, such as sole practitioners. We process it because of our legitimate interest, and the public interest, in helping people find legal services. If you are a lawyer and want your listing corrected or removed, contact us.

Google advertising

In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, we use a consent management platform certified by Google to ask for your consent before personalised ads are shown.

Legal bases (UK and EU visitors)

US state privacy rights

Residents of California and other US states with consumer privacy laws have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access and delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, including for cross-context behavioural (targeted) advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. If personalised ads are enabled, cookies used for targeted advertising may count as "sharing" under some state laws. You can opt out using the privacy choices link or message shown on the site, or through your browser's Global Privacy Control signal, which we honour. To make a request, email hello@lawfindo.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Who we share information with

We use service providers to run the website, such as our hosting provider, postcodes.io for UK postcode lookups and, if enabled, Google for analytics and advertising. Some providers may process information outside your country. Where required, appropriate safeguards are in place, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep information

We keep contact form messages for up to two years, unless we need them longer to deal with a complaint or legal claim. Server logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Contact hello@lawfindo.com. UK residents can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), and EU residents to their national data protection authority.

Children

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
